On 23 February the European Commission published the strategy to promote decent work worldwide and its pledge to prepare a new legislative instrument to effectively ban forced labour products in the EU market. In response PVthin unanimously adopted a statement condemning the use of forced labour in photovoltaic solar power supply chains. The statement follows credible research published on the issue in the recent past, as well as considerable political action at the highest levels. Forced labour in the solar sector was highlighted as a problem during the G7 summit in 2021.
PVthin wishes to emphasise that without collective action against forced labour, ongoing energy transition can never be truly sustainable. For this reason, PVthin urges all stakeholders to unequivocally condemn the use of forced labour in solar power supply chains.
